The Handler 210 MVP: What You Should Know
Portable/Lightweight
The Hobart 210 MVP weighs nearly 80 pounds, which makes it extremely difficult to move. The transformer is not as massive as the Hobart Ironman 240 and is therefore more transportable. Hobart 210’s weight makes it unusable as a portable machine by today’s standards.
Similar models are available from other brands with a much lower weight. While the transformer core provides longevity, you may want to consider alternatives if portability is important to you.
Fixed Voltage Settings
The Hobart 210 offers pretty good adjustability with seven fixed voltage output points. This was highly unusual at that time. Today, it has become obsolete. You can always tune your welds perfectly with many brands that offer infinite voltage output adjustments.
This is something Hobart knows. That’s why they replaced the fixed voltage points in the Ironman 230 model with infinite adjustment points in the Ironman 240. Also, I hope the Hobart 210 will get an upgrade. The model from Hobart lacks this level of arc control until other brands begin to offer it.
Duty Cycle
With a duty cycle of 20 percent at 90A and 230V input, this Hobart is suitable for hobbyists. A welder like this is not cheap, so I’d like to have at least 50% at 150A.
In comparison to the Hobart 210, one of the competing models is cheaper, has a 60% duty cycle at 250A, and does not slack in other areas (we will discuss it later). This level of specifications is no longer acceptable.
Conclusion
Overall, Hobart 210 MVP is a good choice for any welding purpose. Its makes the welding task more manageable, quicker and provide precise welding result. Dual voltage capabilities and great power help it to be more versatile and usable. It controls the output parameters to get a lower spatter rate at the arc for better arc performance and less clean-up.
